Purpose, Mindset and Personal Charter
Reflection
I joined HIP Dev because I want to explore marketing opportunities in African healthcare systems by creating customized, culturally relevant materials that help people understand healthcare products and make informed health choices. Through this exercise, I recognized that fear of failure is my main problem at the moment, and that I tend to treat unsuccessful attempts as complete failure rather than as learning opportunities. I want to become an innovative thinker who asks clarifying questions, conducts research with my team, stays calm when problems arise, welcomes challenges to my ideas, and proposes new solutions while bringing people together around shared vision. My Charter commits me to specific behaviours: bringing critics on board to challenge my ideas, consulting with people more experienced than me when I do not yet know, using published academic research and feedback to reconsider my position when evidence challenges it, and evaluating what I have done wrong when an attempt does not work before developing something bigger with systemic understanding. The behaviour I most want to practise is pausing decisions and consulting with experienced people in the field rather than pushing forward under pressure. This coming week, I need to engage with colleagues about my products to ensure I'm building something valuable for my customers before moving forward. I'll know I'm making progress when I document my work through progress reports and personal targets, and when I can follow what I've documented and walk with what I'm constructing.
