Purpose, Mindset and Personal Charter
Reflection
I joined the HIP Development Challenge because of its reputation for developing entrepreneurs and helping innovators turn ideas into sustainable businesses. Through creating my Personal Charter, I recognized that I have a tendency to become confident too quickly in explanations without testing them, and to assume that strong research will naturally lead to commercial success. I want to become an innovative thinker who asks thoughtful questions, listens by giving full attention, adapts when evidence contradicts my expectations, and seeks feedback from experts to strengthen my decisions.
My Charter commits me to specific behaviours across different situations: listening without interrupting, asking clarifying questions, reflecting on different perspectives, identifying missing information through further research, and deliberately testing my thinking when evidence challenges my position. The behaviour I most want to practise, and which I recognize will be most difficult, is consistently challenging my own assumptions and actively seeking evidence that disconfirms my initial views. During the HIP Development Challenge, I will apply my Charter by intentionally seeking feedback, remaining open to different perspectives, and questioning my own assumptions. I will know I'm making progress when I actively seek feedback, ask thoughtful questions, consider different perspectives, base decisions on evidence, and adapt my thinking when justified by what I discover.
