Alexis Juma is an entrepreneur, Social Development Specialist and Founder & CEO of Kakia Oils, a sustainable Kenyan beauty and wellness startup developing high-efficacy, nature-based solutions for everyday skin, hair and lifestyle challenges.
With nearly two decades of professional experience in diverse capacities, co-designing, implementing and managing transformative programmes that have improved the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people across underserved rural and urban communities in Kenya, Alexis brings a deep understanding of human-centred development to entrepreneurship. Her experience managing eczema with botanical oils since her teenage years sparked a lifelong fascination with nature’s potential and, following her voluntary departure from formal employment in 2016, ultimately inspired her to turn that passion into a thriving business.
Today, Alexis is building Kakia Oils into a premium, sustainable African natural cosmetics brand that harnesses the potency of Africa’s plant-based ingredients and the ingenuity of its farmers, combining them with science-informed formulation to create effective, relevant beauty and wellness solutions for everyday life. Positioned at the nexus of agro-processing and natural cosmetics manufacturing, Kakia Oils unlocks greater value from African botanical resources while contributing to rural livelihoods and more sustainable, inclusive value chains.
Lastly, Alexis is a mother of two that enjoys nature, reading, eclectic music, documentaries and experimenting with edible and non-edible recipes. She is also passionate about causes touching on entrepreneurship, natural health and wellness, youth & women leadership, sustainable agriculture, green finance, climate action and rural development.
