My Introduction

My Venture

EYE CARE ON THE WHEELS

The Solar-Powered Mobile Eye Health & Cataract Surgical Unit is a tech-enabled healthcare venture eliminating avoidable blindness in rural Kenya. Over 87% of visually impaired rural residents remain untreated due to prohibitive transport costs and long distances to urban facilities. Our solution deploys an off-grid mobile surgical vehicle equipped with medical-grade solar power, AI-driven fundus cameras for early glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy screening, and a sterile surgical suite for high-volume cataract procedures. Integrated into county Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and a vision of being powered by Kenya’s Social Health Authority (SHA) reimbursement model, the venture shall generates an operational surplus of KES 800,000/month—ensuring 100% financial self-sustainability without donor dependency. Over 3 years, the venture will deliver 4,500 sight-restoring surgeries, returning 70% of operated patients to active economic productivity.
